All proceeds from this concert support the Refugee Ministry at St. Paul’s. Through its Refugee Ministry, St. Paul’s supports people fleeing their countries in search of asylum and protection. The Refugee Ministry sponsors families and individuals settling in Canada, assists with inter-cultural learning, and also builds social connections through friendships and shared meals.

Celebrated pianist Alan Hobbins returns to the Flato Markham Theatre to give a benefit concert for the Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation. 

The Foundation exists to enable the growth of Markham Stouffville Hospital.  Established in 1989, the Hospital Foundation has continuously raised funds to support healthcare for over 330,000 residents from the Markham and Witchurch-Stouffville communities.

Alan will perform Bach’s G major Toccata; Schumann’s Symphonic Etudes Op, 13; Chopin’s Scherzo in B-flat minor and A-flat major Polonaises; Liszt’s Mephisto Waltz and transcription of Schumann’s Widmung. Alan will also collaborate with tenor Colin Yip and perform Schubert’s Ständchen; Verdi’s Ah Si ben mio from Il Trovatore and Dein ist mein ganzes Herz by Lehár.

All proceeds from the concert go to Markham Stouffville Hospital.

COLIN YIP, TENOR

Colin Yip has been the President of the Toronto School of Music Canada and the International Music & Dance Association in Toronto, since 1996. He has also served as an adjudicator for the Bellini International Music Competition and Verdi International Music Competition in Italy. His operatic performances have included the leading roles in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Bizet’s Carmen, Puccini’s Madame Butterfly, Strauss’s Ariadne Auf Naxos and Verdi’s La Traviata.

Colin has performed at Carnegie Hall, New York, Roy Thomson Hall, Toronto Centre for the Performing Arts, the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing China, New Jersey State Opera, Manhattan Opera and Arizona Opera. He has also performed with the Orchestra of Teatro alla Scala in Milan, The Royal Conservatory of Music Orchestra in Canada, and Manhattan Philharmonic Orchestra, in New York.

In 2007, Colin performed Schubert’s German Lieder song cycle, ” Die Schöne Müllerin” at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, China. Colin is currently admitted in the International Who’s Who of Intellectuals.
